Just Mama and Skyler
Dearest Little Skyler,
Papa has an important presentation for his MA class tonight, and he has to work in school till his lesson at night, so it’s just you and Mama all day today.
After you’d had your morning milk, you watched some Bear-Bear and Trotro before going back to bed.
Later in the morning, Mama and you read some books. We’ve been looking at a lot of nursery rhymes these days and you’ve grown to like some of them more than others. Your favourite nursery rhyme now is “Humpty Dumpty”. Is it because Mama always goes “whoa-oh… SPLAT” after the line “Humpty Dumpty had a great fall”? =D
After your lunch of oats and grapes, we sat by the window and watched the birds, the clouds, the trees and the people below. Actually, you sat there and asked Mama to “sit-sit” there to join you. You also set up some chairs there and had Pooh-Bear, Kanga and Tigger join us there by the window. You’re SO sweet, Little Gal!
You also learnt to unzip the “door” to your bed today. You wanted to swing from the top of your bed like you usually do, monkey-bar style, so you asked Mama to open the “door” to your bed for you. Mama then gave you verbal instructions on how to hold the zip and pull up. You followed Mama’s instructions and managed to unzip the opening yourself! Well done, Little Gal! It’s so dangerous, the way you swing from your bed, but it really shows us how agile and athletic you are. Ah well…
Later, when Mama was bathing you, you had such a splashing good time that Mama was all wet by the time we were done. One of your first books is a free tiny book on elephants we got from the hospital goodie bag shortly after your birth. You’ve always liked the part of the book where the elephant has a bath and goes: “Splish! Splash! Splosh!” Now that you’re older, you’re always looking forward to going “splish, splash, splosh” in the bath yourself. It’s cute, Darling Gal, but it really does get Papa and Mama all wet when we bathe you.
Mama’s quite relieved that she managed to get quite a bit of food into you today. You actually had all your meals! Hooray! You had your milk and bread for breakfast, then you had some oats and grapes and a Vitagen for lunch, some milk and raisins for tea, some porridge and a cup of yoghurt for dinner, and finally, a cup of milk for supper. It’s been so long since you had this much food in a day. Of course, Mama had to let you stick some Snoopy stickers on your dinner table before you were willing to eat more porridge… at least you agreed to carry on eating after that! Well done, Little One!
Before Papa came home at night, Mama told you that we’ll get Papa to play “Hungry Hippos” with us when he’s back. Once Papa got home, you greeted him at the door and kept saying “hip-po, hip-po”. Papa couldn’t figure out what you were trying to tell him. Mama had to explain to Papa why you were saying that! Haha!
What a swell time we had playing “Hungry Hippo”! You managed to press the lever for your little pink hippo to extend its neck to “eat” today, so we actually managed to play the game the way it was meant to be played. =D
As it was already quite late by the time Papa got home, you didn’t get much time to spend with Papa. You had your night-time milk, then we read the Bible together, sang some of your Sunday School songs and pray-prayed before you went to bed.
Oh, you’re also beginning to form longer sentences. Aside from “sit down”, which you said more than a week ago when you wanted your dolphin to sit by your side while you drank your milk, you’ve begun to say, “Carry me please,” on your own, without our prompting. You’re really smart, Little Skyler!
Papa and Mama love you! You’re truly a most wonderful gift from God! =D
