Papa’s Day
Dearest Skyler,
Today was Papa’s Day! :D
You woke up early again today – at about 7 am. Papa was so sleepy but decided to stay awake with you in the hope that you would go back to sleep soon so that you would have had a bit more sleep before we left for Church. It didn’t turn out the way Papa had hoped. :P You only went back to bed at 8.30 am and Papa was so tired out by then. Papa set his alarm clock anyway to wake up a few minutes later so that we could still go for church on time. Again, that didn’t work out as hoped as Papa set the time wrongly and slept through the waking time. By the time we woke up, we were very late for church already. :P
However, we still had a bit of time for Mama and you to give Papa a Papa’s Day card! :D Thank you and Mama, Lil’ One!
We then rushed down to church even though we were late as we simply had to be there. :D Today was Children’s Church / Bilingual Sunday. Mama brought you out for the Children’s Church while Papa stayed behind for the Bilingual Sunday guests. Today we had a group that calls itself “Clouds of Praise” – a Chinese language singing group. They shared their testimonies and sang some songs.
While you were outside, you had a couple of che-ches to play with. You have really come to enjoy playing with che-ches Lil’ One! They also seemed to enjoy playing with you! :D That’s so great! Towards the end of the service, Mama and Papa fed you a couple of ‘bao-bao’s and you finished practically all of them! You really love to eat ‘bao’s don’t you? :D
After service ended, we headed down to East Coast Park as they were having an event called ‘10,000 Fathers Reading’ – it was an event where the organisers hoped that at least 10,000 fathers would come down and read with their children as part of the Papa’s Day celebrations. We find this a sad commentary on fatherhood in Singapore, Lil’ One. Papa and Mama love you so much that we spend so much time playing with you and reading with you so this event seems a bit superfluous to us. The very fact that they have to organise such a thing to encourage fathers to read to their children seems to imply that fathers don’t do this already! How can this be? Sigh…
Anyway, the actual reason we decided to go down for the event wasn’t so much as to support it, as we can comfortably read in our own home, but because Blue from Blue’s Clues was supposed to appear! We thought that you would be thrilled by that! Blue was supposed to appear as a fringe activity at 3 pm so we got there a bit earlier and walked around and waited.
Oh, we did read with you in the section allocated while we were waiting. :D A nice uncle even helped us to take a photograph of us reading. :D We also took part in a speed reading ‘contest’ for the fun of it as we really had a lot of time. :D We didn’t set any records though; we figured that as English teachers, we had a disadvantage – we had to ensure that we read accurately and that must have slowed us down. :P
After 3 pm had come and gone, Blue still had not appeared. Thus, we decided to ask a few of the event organisers who were around whether she would be appearing. It took us a long while before someone finally got an answer for us; to our disappointment, Blue wasn’t going to appear for the fringe activity as the ground was very muddy and it wasn’t convenient for her to walk around. We thus decided that we had to leave before the stage show as it would be another hour plus before that happened. So sorry, Lil’ One. We think that we were the only ones that were looking forward to seeing Blue. :P Sigh… Blue disappointed her ‘littlest biggest fan’!
We thus headed home. Aunty Patsy dropped by soon after and you so totally enjoyed her visit! You kept on showing her books and other toys that you had lying around. And she was so amused by your ‘tricks’. :D
After Aunty Patsy had left, we prepared to go for dinner at Popo’s. Once again, you had such great fun there! Gong-gong, Kow-fu and Kow-moh were there too! You kept on going around to play with them all and you also enjoyed your most favourite activity there – climbing up the stairs!
After dinner, we had a cake to commemorate Papa’s Day which you totally enjoyed. You kept on asking for more but we couldn’t give you so much sugar, Lil’ One. :D We also gave gong-gong a photo frame containing six photos of gong-gong and popo with you for Gong-gong’s Day! :D We then came home after that. :D
Thank you for an activity-filled Papa’s Day!
We love you!
