Skyler Has High Fever

Dearest Little Skyler,

You had a very high fever today. Actually, you started having one since last night. As we still had the paracetamol from your previous visit to the doctor, we tried to feed that to you to bring your temperature down. You did not really want to take the milk in which we had put the medicine but you finally did finish it.

Throughout the night, you slept very fitfully and woke up every hour in total discomfort, poor baby girl. Sigh… Hearing you cry yourself awake was so heart-wrenching.

In the morning, you still had a fairly high fever and you kept on wanting to go to bed, we guess, due to the fever induced lethargy and tiredness. You also kept on refusing to eat anything substantial and this worried us a bit – however, we also knew that a fever would make one less inclined to eating so we were not too worried about that part of it.

Mama kept on trying to cool you down by toweling you down with cool water. Papa also kept on bathing you in an effort to bring your temperature down.

As we failed to bring your temperature down, we decided to bring you to see the doctor to see what he could do. Having such a high temperature was not good at all. People have gone deaf and suffered other complications because of fever.

We took you to your usual balloon uncle and your temperature was read at 39.7°C! He recommended that he administer a suppository to bring your temperature down quickly. Mama is quite versed with medication so she was sure that this was a good idea. He placed it in and you were crying throughout the process as it was obviously quite uncomfortable. He also gave us some medicine that you were to consume if your temperature remained above 38.5°C. The cute thing was that even though you cried throughout the process, you waved goodbye to him when we left the consultation room. :D

After we brought you out of the clinic, Papa smelt that you had boomed! Mama was quite worried that you had pushed the suppository out as well. Anyway, we think that was what happened because your fever remained quite high the rest of the afternoon after having dropped a bit for a short while.

You took another nap and Papa went for his lesson. Mama took care of you for the evening. Popo, Kow-fu and Kow-mo all came to visit you when they heard that you were unwell.

You appeared to be quite okay for a while – you ate half of a jar of food, some raisins, bread… but when Mama fed you milk containing the paracetamol, you vomited it all out. Mama thinks it’s because you didn’t like the taste of the medicine. Mama got worried about how high your temperature was and called Papa to come home to take you to see the balloon uncle again. As it was already close to the end of Papa’s lesson, Papa left and rushed home.

The balloon uncle took your temperature again and this time it registered at 39.9°C! As he agreed that you may have pushed out the suppository, he administered another smaller dosage. Again, you cried throughout the process but you still happily waved goodbye to him when we left his consultation room. :D

We came home and spent some time with you before putting you to bed. Your temperature seemed to have dropped and you managed to sleep a while.

It’s been close to two hours since you went to bed. We pray that you will be able to get a good night’s sleep so that your body can heal itself, Little One.

We love you, Darling.

Mama and Papa
