Kor-Kor Kenji’s 4th Birthday
Dearest Little Skyler,
We had such a long day today.
We all went to church in the morning as usual. It was Family Sunday so there was no Sunday School. We watched a presentation by one of the church members who is a member of the United Nations and who had gone over to Timor Leste for some work. He was sharing with us about how poor the people there are and the amount of violence that is rampant in the streets due to what I think is the people’s poverty and joblessness. This reminds me to be thankful that we stay in Singapore where we have both peace and stability and jobs relatively aplenty.
After church, we drove over to Tua-Pek’s home to celebrate Kor-Kor Kenji’s 4th birthday! It was to be a birthday lunch and we were the first to arrive. The other guests included Grandma, Tua-Pek’s neighbour and Kor-Kor’s babysitter and her daughters.
We gave Kor-Kor his present of a radio controlled car and he was so thrilled with it. It was fairly responsive so we hope that he will learn quickly how to control it and not hurt anybody by ramming it into their feet.
Soon, everyone had arrived and we had lunch. There was so much food – we had pizza, Japanese handrolls that Tua-Erm prepared, chicken wings, curry chicken, salad, etc. There was also so much food leftover.
After a while, you were so sleepy that Mama and Papa wanted to leave but they encouraged us to stay for the cake-cutting. Tua-Pek suggested that you napped in his room so that was what we tried to do. It was a failure because you were not used to the room and kept on waking up when we placed you on the bed. Papa ended up having to carry you while you napped. After a while, Papa was so tired that he left you on the bed to be entertained by Mama while HE NAPPED! :D
Soon after, Tua-Pek came to call us for the cake cutting and after we had some cake, we left.
We went over to the Ikea Tampines as we thought that we might need to purchase a bed and wardrobe for Grandma as we had invited her to stay over with us sometime while Tua-Pek’s family was over in Cambodia. You were so tired that you slept in the stroller for one whole hour. Papa and Mama just walked around and looked at the furniture while you slept. Anyway, we could not decide whether to buy any furniture as we could not decide what to do with any furniture that we bought once the room became yours. :P We are probably going to get something temporary or makeshift for Grandma as she declared that she would not be staying so often anyway.
We also finally had the opportunity to have dinner there. It was interesting as it was always so crowded. However, as you were quite fussy, we ended up sharing only one portion of food – but you had so many varieties of food – your Orchard Plum, bread, Baby Bites, salmon, broccoli and pototatoes.
We had also bought plasters this morning to protect the wound on your thumb but they kept on falling off when you got them soaking wet with your saliva. Hmmm… we need to think of some other way to protect your wound.
We love you, Little One.
